Man United are not prepared to let Bruno Fernandes leave the club under any circumstances this summer, according to their former chief scout.
Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that losing the 30-year-old would be a “catastrophic blow”.
This is despite reports that a £90million valuation had been placed on the attacking midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.
Real Madrid are the latest side to be linked with a shock move for Fernandes [Star] amid suggestions he could be open to a move away from the Premier League.
However, Brown told Football Insider last month that Man United don’t want to sell Fernandes and are prepared to do all they can to keep him at Old Trafford.
While the former scout confessed United’s actions in the transfer market are hard to predict, he explained that even £90million would not be enough.

Man United will not sell Bruno Fernandes under any circumstances
Fernandes’ current contract at Old Trafford is set to run until 2027, while the club have the option to extend his deal by a further year, placing United firmly in control.
Brown, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also spent time as a scout for the likes of Tottenham, Aston Villa and West Ham, insisted that the Portugal international will not be allowed to leave under any circumstances.
“It’s difficult to tell what Man United will do in the transfer market,” he told Football Insider.
“I wouldn’t have expected them to be open to offers for the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Garnacho, but those are the decisions the club have made.
“Now, that spotlight is on Bruno Fernandes.
“There have been very few positives about Man United this season, but he is one of them.
“From what I hear, they are extremely reluctant to let him go under any circumstances because it would be a catastrophic blow to this team.
“He’s been so important to them, I think even this £90million price tag I’ve seen reported wouldn’t be enough.
“How much does that money get you now if you’re looking to invest it across a few positions?
“I would suggest losing Bruno Fernandes would do more damage than it would be possible to repair with the money he would bring in.”

Marcus Rashford update emerges at Aston Villa
Another big-name player who looks set for a move away from Man United this summer is Marcus Rashford, who has enjoyed a successful loan spell at Aston Villa.
Now, Brown has told Football Insider that Villa are leading the race to sign Rashford permanently amid interest from Barcelona and Bayern Munich.
The forward is believed to have a £40million option to buy in his loan contract at Villa Park, should Unai Emery’s side wish to keep him long-term.
However, Football Insider revealed Rashford will cost £130million in total given the requirement to match his current £350,000-per-week wage over a five-year period on top of the option to buy.
