The PGMOL's stance on James Tarkowski's tackle on Alexis Mac Allister in the Merseyside derby has emerged. Liverpool claimed a 1-0 win over Everton in the Premier League clash at Anfield on Wednesday night, with Diogo Jota on the score sheet for the hosts.
It was in the first half that Tarkowski was issued a yellow card by referee Sam Barrott for a tackle on Mac Allister. The challenge was then reviewed by Paul Tierney on VAR, where it was decided that the onfield decision would stand and that the Everton defender would not receive a yellow card.
Gary Neville was on commentary for Sky Sports' coverage of the game, where he said he believed Tarkowski was "lucky" not to be sent off. Former Everton striker Duncan Ferguson and ex-Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher were also in agreement that the Blues centre-back should have been shown a red card following a VAR check.

The morning after the match, reports emerged that PGMOL sources acknowledge that Tarkowski should have been sent off for the incident and that a VAR review should have recommended a red card be issued for serious foul play.
talkSPORT host Alan Brazil read out a report from the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) which outlines why they believe Tarkowski should have been shown a red card for the tackle on Mac Allister.
"We have just been issued this report from the Merseyside derby last night," said Brazil on talkSPORT on Thursday morning.
"talkSPORT understands that the PGMOL acknowledged that Everton defender [James] Tarkowski should have been issued with a red card in the fixture with Liverpool.
"So for the more detail the report suggests the challenge saw Tarkowski clearly played the ball initially, however the nature of the follow-through met the threshold for serious foul play.
"The referee felt the challenge was reckless in real time and the VAR then checked the on-field decision of a yellow card deeming that the referee's call was not a clear and obvious error.
"However, the view of the PGMOL is that a review should have been recommended and ultimately the original decision overturned."
