Chelsea make fresh contact with the agents of £50m 'big target', they're trying to negotiate his wages - journalist

Chelsea have been in touch again with the agents of an attacker on their transfer radar.

The Chelsea owners definitely haven’t been shy in recent years to inject cash to facilitate the club’s recruitment, so let’s wait and see if another busy summer lies in store.

It’s been reported that Chelsea can afford a ‘major acquisition’ this summer because they’re planning to offload several players.

Journalist Simon Phillips has reported via Substack that Chelsea have made contact again with the agents of Athletic Bilbao star Nico Williams.

Apparently, the Blues are discussing the 22-year-old’s wages to see if there’s any room for movement.

Phillips claims that the Spain international is a ‘big target’ for Chelsea. However, something would need to give with the player’s wages because they’re too high.

It was recently claimed that Chelsea started talks with Williams, who’s got a release clause worth around £50m in his current deal. On paper, the Athletic left-winger could be a really exciting addition at Stamford Bridge if a deal can be agreed.

The fact that Williams outshines Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior for dribbling this season in La Liga tells you everything about him as a player. He’s a quick, agile and direct wide man that can be a nightmare for opposition full-backs.

Jadon Sancho vs Nico Williams

For large parts of this season, Jadon Sancho has been Chelsea’s main option on the left wing. Therefore, it’s very interesting to see how he directly compares to transfer target Williams.

Here is a look at how Sancho and Williams have performed in their respective leagues so far this season…

As you can see above, Williams is a much busier footballer on the pitch than Sancho. He’s three years younger than him, too.

If we could only have one of them at Chelsea next season, Williams would be the obvious pick because it looks like his ceiling moving forward is much higher.
