Manchester United forward Alejandro Garnacho has taken to social media to send a cryptic message following Ruben Amorim's eye-catching comments on his performance against Nottingham Forest.

Amorim's side fell to a 1-0 defeat at the City Ground on Tuesday night with Anthony Elanga's fifth-minute strike enough to separate the two sides. The result leaves United in 13th place in the Premier League table.

After the match, Amorim admitted that Garnacho was "not that good" during his 90 minutes on the pitch - amid criticism from across the board for his performance.

"He's making everything, he's trying sometimes," Amorim said during his post-match press conference. "You have one day [where] you are doing the right things but in the final third, you are not that good. That can happen. That can happen in the game.

"The most important thing for me is when he needs to run back, he's running back.

"Of course, we want a player that has one against one. Sometimes he's trying too much, he has Patrick Dorgu to make a movement, but I think he wants to help the team in doing his best.

"Sometimes he doesn't always make the best choice, but you can point to any player today."

Garnacho broke silence on social media on Wednesday night. He posted a caption-less picture on his Instagram story of him on the ground and looking disappointed following the game against Forest.

Amorim's comments, and Garncho's reaction, comes as it has been suggested by The Daily Mail that the winger could be used in a possible swap deal for Victor Osimhen in the summer window. Napoli were one of the teams showing a firm interest in the winger in January.

Garnacho will be looking to bounce back from disappointment against Forest when United meet Manchester City in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm). The 20-year-old has scored four times in the Premier League so far this season, including in the 3-0 win over Leicester City before March's international break.
