On April 3, commencing at 11:45 a.m. (local time; April 3, 6:45 p.m. JST) for approximately 15 minutes, Mr. IWAYA Takeshi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who is visiting Belgium to attend the NATO Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held a meeting with H.E. Ms. Elina Valtonen, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Finland. The overview of the meeting is as follows.
At the outset, Foreign Minister Iwaya stated that Japan and Finland are strategic partners that share fundamental values and principles. He expressed his intention to further develop bilateral relations, building on the Japan-Finland Summit Meeting held during Prime Minister Orpo’s visit to Japan in December last year. In response, Minister Valtonen stated that she hopes that Finland and Japan will work further closely.
The two Ministers welcomed the growing momentum in high-level exchanges, and confirmed their intention to steadily advance cooperation not only in the field of security but also in cutting-edge science and technology areas such as 5G, 6G, and supercomputing.
The two Ministers confirmed that Japan and Finland will work closely together on various issues of the international community such as the situation in Ukraine and in East Asia.
