Bournemouth are plotting a move to re-sign Southampton star Aaron Ramsdale if they cannot reach an agreement for Kepa Arrizabalaga.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Kepa remains their first-choice but the deal could prove complicated.

Instead, Andoni Iraola’s side will turn their attention towards 26-year-old Ramsdale who is one of their top candidates for the position.

However, they will face competition for his signature as Brown told Football Insider Ramsdale could join Chelsea where he would be offered a starting role.

The ex-Arsenal man spent three and a half years at Bournemouth between 2017 and 2020 before an £18.5million move to Sheffield United – but still has admirers at the Vitality Stadium.

The Cherries have been considering a number of backup options between the sticks, with Liverpool’s Caoimhin Kelleher on their list of targets.

Bournemouth plot Aaron Ramsdale swoop amid mass Southampton exodus

Brown previously told Football Insider that Southampton are preparing for a summer transfer exodus, with Ramsdale among those most likely to leave.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Chelsea could price the Cherries out of a move for Kepa.

“*I don’t know what the situation is with Kepa and Chelsea,*” he told Football Insider.

“I hear Bournemouth want to keep him, but there are questions about how much they might have to pay.

“He went for a big fee to Chelsea so I think they’ll look to make some of that money back from Bournemouth, which could put them off of a move.

“That then leaves the door open because they will need a new goalkeeper.

“If Ramsdale is available, as I expect he will be, then he’s certainly a top candidate.

“It depends who else is in the frame, but Ramsdale is about as good as you’re going to get.

“He’s played well for Southampton, regularly gets into the England squad, and he’s a top-class goalkeeper.

“I think it’s a distinct possibility Bournemouth will explore that move if they can’t agree a deal for Kepa because first and foremost they want to keep him.”

Alongside the addition of a new goalkeeper, Bournemouth are also looking to strengthen their squad in a number of other positions as they prepare for a busy window.

Football Insider revealed on 19 March that Bournemouth want to sign Maxim de Cuyper from Club Brugge amid concerns about Milos Kerkez’s future.

The 24-year-old has impressed for Club Brugge in the Champions League this season and the Belgian club are now braced for offers for the full-back this summer.

This comes after Football Insider exclusively revealed that Kerkez wants to join Liverpool and has already told friends of his decision should an official offer arrive.
