Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni has admitted he is eyeing up revenge against Manchester City in the Club World Cup this summer.

Manchester City secured their first Champions League crown nearly two years ago at Inter Milan’s expense, with the Italian side pushing the Premier League champions all the way with a fine display in Istanbul.
Rodri’s solo goal proved to be the difference and break Italian hearts, with Inter unable to come back as Romelu Lukaku missed several gilt-edged chances.
It was a disappointing end to a fine run to their first Champions League final since 2010 for Inter, who had seen off Barcelona in the group stages and Porto, Benfica and then AC Milan in the knockout stages as well.
The two sides could renew hostilities in the summer if they happen to meet in the Club World Cup, and Bastoni admits he’s looking for revenge if they do.
“Facing Manchester City and playing on equal terms against the team that is currently the strongest in the world makes you understand that you can play it,” he said.
“Losing it in that way hurt a lot, also because it’s the last game of the season. A league game is one thing, but the Champions League final could be something you play once in your life.
“I like the new format, also because you play against strong teams right from the start. But between this new format and the Club World Cup, we play too much. If we finish in mid-July and start again at the beginning of August, it’s tough.
“Plus, the World Cup is played in the middle of summer, it will be very hot, and we are tired from the season that just ended. We’ll see how things go in these years and what impact it will have.”
