Roy Jones Jr. is a boxing legend, becoming a champion in different weight classes
Michael Jordan won six NBA championships in the NBA
Jones Jr. is a huge Jordan fan, and he's not afraid to tell you about it
Michael Jordan is known as the G.O.A.T. by many basketball fans. These fans are normally very passionate about Jordan and his ranking in the NBA.
There are debates that go on in the barbershop all the time about who's better between certain players, and normally it's friendly banter. When it comes to former undisputed light heavyweight boxing champion Roy Jones Jr., his love for Jordan is so strong that he'd risk going to jail to defend His Airness.
Back in 2004, former NFL star turned successful analyst Ahmad Rashad had a TV special on ESPN. It was called All-Exclusive With Ahmad Rashad.
The special featured five incredible athletes joining Rashad. They were Michael Jordan, Serena Williams, Derek Jeter, Roy Jones Jr. and Warren Sapp.
It was on this special where Jones Jr. spoke about his love for Jordan and how he'd defend MJ. This includes defending against his former teammate turned rival, Scottie Pippen.
"That was the only time I lost my cool. It was when the Bulls were winning a lot. I have always been a Michael Jordan fan. This guy comes up to me and says, 'Scottie Pippen is the best player on that team'.
"I stopped. I said, don't ever say that around me again. Matter the fact I'm going home because If you say that one more time to me, I'm going to jail, you understand me? I'm going to jail."
This is a bold statement, but Jones Jr. likely meant it. In his prime, Jones Jr. was one of the best fighters the boxing world has ever seen. Like Jordan, Jones Jr. wanted to destroy any opponent that stood in their way.
This is likely one of the reasons why the boxing legend is such a huge Jordan fan. The connection between athletes and winning attitudes is what makes these professionals gain the utmost respect for each other.
Roy Jones Jr.'s Impressive Boxing Career
Roy Jones Jr. was destined to become a professional boxer. His father, Roy Jones Sr., was a professional boxer himself, fighting as a middleweight.
As for Jones Jr., he became one of the best fighters of all time. He fought as a middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight, cruiserweight, and heavyweight.
Jones Jr. has won many different title belts in different weight classes. This includes winning the WBA Heavyweight Championship belt, the WBA Light Heavyweight Championship belt, and the IBF Light Heavyweight Championship belt.
Jones Jr. retired from boxing in 2018 after finishing with a 66-10 record. He won 47 matches by knockout.
Jones Jr. is a passionate Michael Jordan fan who is probably upset at the recent comments made by Scottie Pippen about Jordan. Many people are upset at Pippen, including former NBA star Dominique Wilkins.
Hopefully, one day, the two former Chicago Bulls stars can make up and be cool with one another. As of now, that looks unrealistic.
