'My understanding': Liverpool keeping tabs on £63m player who Dani Olmo thinks is 'amazing' - Fabrizio Romano

Liverpool have plenty of work to do this summer as they plan for a big transfer window under Arne Slot.

Slot has barely done any business at all since taking charge of the Reds in 2024, but that looks set to change at the end of the current campaign.

With less than two months to go until the curtain comes down on Liverpool’s season, names of targets are starting to circulate with more urgency.

Alexander Isak looks set to be a top target, although it remains to be seen whether he’s available or whether Liverpool are willing to pay his enormous asking price.

Elsewhere, Milos Kerkez appears to be a priority at left-back, while there are centre-backs and wide forwards galore also being heavily linked.

And then there’s the attacking midfielders. As Liverpool search for a little more creativity from the middle of the pitch, they are once again rumoured to be in the market for a new number 10.

Liverpool well informed over Xavi Simons

Given how little Harvey Elliott has played this season – and the calls for more output from Dominik Szoboszlai – it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Slot target a new creative midfielder.

Reports have claimed that Elliott could be sold if a good offer comes in and there have been suggestions that Xavi Simons of RB Leipzig may be the player to replace him.

Addressing those claims while speaking to his YouTube channel, journalist Fabrizio Romano confirms that Liverpool are indeed likely to be in the mix for Simons this summer.

“Xavi Simons has concrete possibilities of leaving Red Bull Leipzig already in this summer transfer window,” he says. “It’s not guaranteed, but it’s a concrete possibility.”

“There are movements and my understanding is that for something around let’s say 70 to 75 million Euros [£58-63m], there is a chance to strike a deal for Xavi Simons.”

“The Premier League is the most concrete possibility. What we can mention is that Premier League clubs were interested one year ago,” Romano adds.

“Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, also Liverpool are well informed on the situation. All of these clubs are calling to be informed.”

What is expected to happen with Simons?

While Simons would be an exciting addition, the price-tag would demand he be a regular starter for Liverpool. In the current set-up, we can’t see that happening.

Nevertheless, Romano is adamant that Premier League remains the most likely option for Simons, even if the player himself is still ‘dreaming’ of a return to Barcelona at some stage.

“It is still early but the situation could be open in the summer and all these clubs are watching closely,” he says.

“Because my understanding is there is a concrete chance to see Xavi Simons leaving. Barcelona is a dream but Premier League is a concrete possibility. It depends on the opportunities but for sure he’s going to be one to watch in the summer transfer window.”

Former Leipzig teammate Dani Olmo called Simons ‘amazing‘, praising the 21-year-old’s dribbling technique as well as his finishing ability. He’s a super little player and Liverpool are keeping their eye on him.
