How big Newcastle United’s new stadium could be

As Toon officials continue to debate the finer details of what a new stadium will look like, supporters are eager to discover what its attendance will be.

It had been reported that Darren Eales wants a 65,000-seater stadium, with the Newcastle United CEO wary of ensuring that it is sold out for every game.

However, there could now be an ambition to make it even bigger.

According to the Telegraph, ‘senior figures’ at the club are keen for Newcastle United’s new stadium to have a capacity higher than 65,000.

The Telegraph add that this is because of how many supporters attended the Carabao Cup celebrations, with more than 300,000 fans coming out to party with Eddie Howe and his team.

With that and the demand for tickets, it is reported that people within the club believe there is a need for the new stadium’s capacity to be more than 65,000.

Newcastle United’s current home, St James’ Park, has a capacity of 52,305.

One thing Newcastle United must do once new stadium is built

Given the amount of supporters that lined the streets of Newcastle and attended the event at the Town Moor, it is understandable that the club believe there is scope to build a bigger ground. The appetite is certainly there.

However, that must be caveated by making tickets affordable.

Yes, hundreds of thousands of supporters were there to celebrate winning the Carabao Cup. However, they had not been asked to pay any money. Newcastle rightly ensured that tickets for the Town Moor event were free, while anyone was able to watch the parade.

The club have physically seen the level of support they have. That presents them with an opportunity to build a bigger stadium and sell more tickets than initially anticipated. But that loyalty must not be exploited.

Newcastle United have increased season ticket prices for adults for the 2025/26 campaign, despite supporters calling on the club to freeze them.
