2025 NFL Draft: How Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders could both land with New York Giants

Former Colorado stars Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders are both expected to go in the first round of the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft and ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. believes the New York Giants are on a path to potentially land both of them. In CBS Sports' latest mock, Hunter landed with the Giants at No. 3 overall, while Sanders slipped to the Los Angeles Rams at No. 26.

Even with New York recently signing free agent Russell Wilson to a one-year deal, Kiper projects the Giants to get their quarterback of the future in Sanders with a splashy move.

"You get Travis Hunter at three. Shedeur Sanders drops, you can trade back into the first round and get Shedeur Sanders," Kiper said Wednesday on ESPN. "Then, you've got Hunter and Sanders if you're the Giants. That's a scenario possibly could take place. In Field (Yates)'s Mock Draft 4.0, he's got Shedeur at No. 3 to the Giants. I would have no problem with that."

Hunter is the top player overall on Kiper's "Big Board" while Sanders is the second-rated quarterback behind Miami's Cam Ward. Sanders previously hinted at the Giants being a potential preferred landing spot after wearing New York-inspired footwear at the Shrine Bowl in January.

Deion Sanders said last week he will not influence which team selects his son, a direct pivot from his previous approach. Sanders said in January that there were a "couple of teams that I won't allow him to play for," and that the family had a preference for the projected first-rounder.

Sanders said he now has no interference plans.

"No, because that's not God's will right now," Sanders said during an interview with Skip Bayless. "I want Shedeur to do what he's consistently done, excel against all odds. I like the hating, I like the naysaying, I like the ignorance, because it makes us feel better about what we do. It gives him another chip on his shoulder."

Deion Sanders said on the "Tamron Hall Show" before his son declined participating in on-field drills at the NFL Scouting Combine that certain franchises could stunt Shedeur Sanders' professional development.

"It's not like who I would like for him to play for. It's a couple of teams that I won't allow him to play for," Deion Sanders said. "So it's not like that. But this is my profession. I know what's behind the curtain. We ain't got to get back there for me to understand what's behind the curtain and what's not prominent for my son. I'm not doing it."

Shedeur Sanders rated as a four-star transfer in the 2023 portal cycle and followed his father to Colorado from Jackson State. He rated as a high three-star prospect coming out of Cedar Hill (Texas) Trinity Christian in the 2021 class. Sanders ranked as the No. 37 quarterback and No. 75 overall recruit regardless of position in Texas at the time.

The Tennessee Titans hold the No. 1 overall pick. Shedeur Sanders hinted throughout the 2024 season that the Las Vegas Raiders were a preferred destination, but the Titans are out front followed by the Cleveland Browns at No. 2. The Raiders have since traded for Geno Smith and the Titans are projected to take Ward with the top selection.
