What a furious Harvey Barnes was seen shouting at Newcastle United star during win vs Brentford

Harvey Barnes starred in Newcastle United’s 2-1 win against Brentford, but was less than pleased after one big moment during the game.

The Magpies made is three straight wins in all competitions and a first victory as cup winners on their return to St James’ Park.

Newcastle United fans put on a fantastic display before kick-off, celebrating their recent Carabao Cup win, which ended a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy. The display, put together by fan group Wor Flags, also paid tribute to Toon boss Eddie Howe and those who were not here to see their club bring glory back to Tyneside.

Sandro Tonali’s stunning goal means Newcastle’s 2-1 win against Brentford will be remembered for years to come, but by no means was it an easy three points. Newcastle’s ‘dream’ transfer target Bryan Mbeumo netted a penalty in front of the Gallowgate End to level the clash before Ethan Pinnock hit the post a few minutes later.

Alexander Isak made history for Newcastle by becoming the first player to score 20 goals in consecutive seasons for the club, a feat that Alan Shearer could not even do.

Harvey Barnes impressed for the Magpies once again, bagging the assist for Tonali’s goal. But the winger could be seen looking livid in the first half after a big moment.

Harvey Barnes furious with Alexander Isak during Newcastle win

Howe confirmed Isak picked up an injury during the Brentford win, with the Sweden international continuing to struggle with a groin issue that kept him out of the defeat to Liverpool at Anfield in early March.

Despite the worries, Newcastle’s star striker still left his mark on the game with a goal during first-half stoppage time.

However, Isak could have found the back of the net just a minute earlier when he broke away, worked his way past Pinnock and sat Nathan Collins down before squaring the ball to Barnes who fired into the back of the net.

Immediately after scoring, Barnes was seen gesturing to Isak and said, “Why didn’t you finish?”

The linesman’s flag was already up, but VAR confirmed that the goal would not count with Barnes’ foot clearly offside. Barnes’ comments were deemed to be fair as Isak had opportunities to shoot before squaring the ball over to the England international.

Harvey Barnes has earned another start for Newcastle

It is fair to say that Barnes has struggled to cement his place in Newcastle’s starting XI since joining in 2023, mainly due to how well Gordon has played over the last two seasons.

Gordon missed the Brentford win due to suspension, with the 24-year-old still rueing his red card against Brighton in the FA Cup over a month ago.

The winger is now available for selection again after missing Newcastle’s last three games, including the Carabao Cup final.

Howe may be reluctant to throw Gordon back into the starting XI, however, given that Barnes has registered two goal involvements in the three games since taking his teammate’s place.

Gordon is struggling with a hip problem, although Howe has said it is not a serious problem. Missing the Brentford game gave Gordon the time to recover, but he must now fight for his place in the starting lineup with nine games left in the Premier League season.
