Samsung’s Lee heads to Japan after China to shore up business ties

Samsung Electronics Executive Chairman Jay Y. Japan is the next stop on Lee's global outreach for 2025.

Lee arrived in Tokyo yesterday alongside top Samsung executives. While Japan has been a frequent destination for him over the past year, this is notable trip given the entourage of top leadership that's accompanying him.

Lee is expected to meet with newly appointed CEOs at several top Japanese firms, including Sony and Hitachi. He's also believed to be setting up a personal office in Tokyo which will work with Samsung's local advisory group.

This would help improve Samsung's network of local relationships and provide new avenues of collaboration with Japanese firms on components and technologies. The company's Future Business Planning Team has also been conducting deep research into Japanese firms.

Amid multiple business challenges, Samsung is said to be analyzing the resurgence of many giants in Japan's electronics sectors, who have been able to implement structural reforms and pivots to overcome crises. Samsung is reportedly studying these transformations very closely and adopt some of those lesses, while also improving its standing in the relationship-driven business culture of Japan.
