A pair of new reports gives more reason to believe the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets will have a very good chance of getting Shedeur Sanders in Round 1 of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Heading into the offseason, both the Raiders and Jets had to address their question mark at the quarterback spot. Las Vegas’ QB situation was a mess last season as Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell both proved ineffective in their opportunities. While New York got a disappointing season from future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers.
However, the pair of NFL teams were aggressive in the first days of the new league year and have found their starting QB for 2025 and maybe beyond. The Raiders surprised many when they made a bold trade for Seattle Seahawks starting QB Geno Smith. The Jets, on the other hand, made a big splash in free agency by signing former Chicago Bears first-round pick Justin Fields.
The hope is that both can play well and make each squad a playoff contender in the next few seasons. However, the Raiders and Jets must still consider taking a quarterback in this month’s NFL Draft. Based on early projections, it seemed like the top signal callers in this year’s class — Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders — would not fall to them at six and seven, respectively. However, that may no longer be the case.
Shedeur Sanders likely to drop to Las Vegas Raiders or New York Jets in Round 1
During an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show” Wednesday, ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter revealed that “It certainly feels like the Cleveland Browns are inclined to look elsewhere, aside from quarterback [in Round 1] and it’s starting to feel like the New York Giants at No. 3 are starting to look elsewhere other than quarterback.”
Sports Illustrated insider Albert Breer seemed to confirm those rumors when he reported yesterday that “The Browns and Giants have at least given off some signals over the last week or two that they could take position players.”
The New England Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars pick before the Raiders and Jets, and neither will use a premium pick on a quarterback when they feel they have a franchise signal-caller. It perfectly positions Las Vegas or New York to take Sanders — since Ward is expected to go No. 1 to the Tennessee Titans — if they so choose.
