Paolo Di Canio Makes Vinicius Jr Comparison With Mo Salah And Picks His Ballon d’Or Winner

Former Premier League attacker Paolo Di Canio has said that Liverpool star Mo Salah should win the Ballon d’Or over Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.

Liverpool look set to win the Premier League title as they have a 12 point lead over Arsenal in second after they beat rivals Everton 1-0 at Anfield on Wednesday night.

They are out of the Champions League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, however, with a Premier League title almost in the bag, Arne Slot’s first season has been a huge success.

One reason why it has is attacker Mo Salah, who has scored 32 goals and provided 27 assists for Liverpool in 44 games this season – he is in strong contention to win the coveted Ballon d’Or award, which Man City star Rodri won last season.

Di Canio believes Salah should win the Ballon d’Or

Former Premier League forward Paolo Di Canio was asked in a recent interview who he thinks should win the award, and whether Salah has finally done enough to get his hands on it for the first time in his career. Di Canio told FootItalia: “From my point of view, if we stop the season now, of course there is no doubt for me, Salah would win the Ballon d’Or.

“But if Vinicius Junior now scores a goal in the Champions League semi final or final then plays in the final. Then win it, even if he plays a bad game in the final. Just to repay the fans after they didn’t give him it in the past and maybe they’re gonna choose him, but to be honest, at this moment, Salah is the one.”

Salah’s contract at Liverpool is due to expire in the summer meaning that he could leave Anfield for free. The Reds will have to work fast if they are to tie down the 32-year-old for at least another short-term deal.
