Every word of bombshell Arsenal statement as Gabriel season over due to injury

Arsenal defender Gabriel has been ruled out for the rest of the season, with the centre-back set to undergo surgery in the coming days.

The Brazilian was forced off with a hamstring injury during the 2-1 win over Fulham on Tuesday. Gabriel looked to sustain the injury while sprinting back to try and stop a counter attack with no more than 15 minutes of the match played.

After being examined by medical staff on Wednesday, Arsenal confirmed Gabriel's 2024/25 campaign is now over. The 27-year-old is now expected to make his return at the start of next season.

The full statement published on the Arsenal website on Thursday afternoon reads: "Further to being substituted during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury which requires surgery.

"Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season.

"Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting Gabi to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible."

Jakub Kiwior replaced Gabriel at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night and the Polish international could now be set for an extended spell in the team. Riccardo Calafiori is currently out injured with a knee problem, while Ben White was not named in the squad to face Fulham as he continues to have injury niggles of his own.

It means Gabriel will miss the Gunners' eight remaining Premier League games, as well as at least two Champions League matches. Arsenal face Real Madrid in the quarter-final of the competition this month, with the first leg pencilled in for next Tuesday.
