Daniel Farke has already made his decision on Illan Meslier ahead of Leeds United’s clash with Luton Town.

Leeds United remain on course for promotion back to the Premier League, though their recent form has made it a far more challenging task than it should have been.

The latest 2-2 draw to Swansea City meant that the Whites have won just one of their last five Championship encounters, while losing their spot at the summit of the league.

Meslier dropped yet another howler against the Welsh outfit, and Farke has finally reacted to his lack of form.

Farke is set to axe Meslier from Leeds XI

Meslier has been the driving force behind Leeds’ shortcomings in recent weeks, with a collection of mistakes costing his side points over the course of the season.

Both goals conceded against Swansea were his own doing, with the first coming as a result of him dropping the ball under no pressure, and the second going under his body.

It has been a decision waiting to be made, but Farke has finally decided to drop the Frenchman, with Karl Darlow set to start against relegation-threatened Luton.

Sheffield United 26 7 6 83

Leeds 23 12 4 81

Burnley 22 15 2 81

Leeds are second in the Championship heading into the final seven games.

Speaking to the press, as quoted by Beren Cross, Farke said: “Big believer in clarity at goalkeeper. I already told Karl Darlow he will start on Saturday with Illan Meslier on the bench.”

If Darlow can impress, or at the very least not drop a clanger in his own net, there is every chance he will be the starting keeper for Leeds going forward, until a signing comes through the door in January.

Leeds will benefit from Meslier axe

With seven games remaining, Leeds need to win the majority of them to retain their spot in the automatic promotion places, with the pressure intensifying on Farke to do so.

Much of that pressure has been as a result of unwillingness to drop Meslier, which he seems to have finally acknowledged as an error of judgment.

Leeds simply need to pick up all three points against Luton this weekend, and continue their push for Premier League football.
