The race for the Most Valuable Player award this 2024-25 season is heating up, particularly between Nikola Jokic and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
A poll conducted by ESPN put the Oklahoma City Thunder guard in the lead. Nonetheless, it might be too early to proclaim him as the MVP winner.
In the said poll, Gilgeous-Alexander claimed 77 of 100 first-place votes. This significant lead suggests a strong consensus regarding his outstanding contributions throughout the season.
As the Thunder aim to secure the best record in the NBA, SGA's continued excellence should only solidify his position as this season's MVP.

However, several scouts have aired their opinions on the ongoing MVP race between Gilgeous-Alexander and Jokic. While the former is the frontrunner to win the award, the Nuggets star still has a lot of backers around league circles.
"I'd go Jokic," one scout told ESPN. "[For] keeping that team afloat with the injuries and their depth. The Thunder are great everywhere. There's a reason they are going to win 70 games.
"[Jokic] is putting up a statistical anomaly in NBA history. It's Wilt Chamberlain-esque."
Another scout noted, "Jokic. It's hard, just because OKC is playing so well, and Shai is great. But Jokic just continues to elevate his game."
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has emerged as a top performer, averaging 32.8 points per game while leading the Thunder to a remarkable 64-12 record. His scoring prowess and playmaking ability have made him a key figure in OKC's quest for a top seed.
Meanwhile, Nikola Jokic continues to deliver exceptional performances for the Nuggets. More recently, against the Minnesota Timberwolves, he secured a 61-point triple-double in a losing effort.
Jokic remains a formidable contender, but the latest trends in the MVP discussion are favoring the Thunder guard. Nevertheless, fans should keep an eye out to see if the Nuggets star will be able to turn the tide.
