Bruno Guimaraes and more react as Newcastle United make official announcement

Bruno Guimaraes is delighted about the big news coming out of Newcastle United on Thursday.

On the back of Newcastle United beating Brentford at St James’ Park, the club have announced a contract extension.

It was not too long ago that Martin Dubravka and Emil Krafth signed new deals with Newcastle United, with their previous contracts due to expire in the summer.

They are going nowhere, and neither is Fabian Schar.

The club have announced that the 33-year-old has signed a new one-year deal at St James’ Park, ensuring that Schar remains on Tyneside until 2026.

Fabian Schar posts Instagram message after contract announcement

Eddie Howe has been pushing for Schar to get a new contract, and now he has got his wish.

It is fantastic news that Schar is staying put. He remains an outstanding defender, and the man himself is delighted to extend his stay.

Following the announcement, Schar wrote on Instagram: “Very proud to have signed a contract extension with @NUFC! This has become my home over the past 7 years and there is nowhere I would rather be! Let’s finish the @premierleague season strong now.”

MORE NEWCASTLE STORIES

Schar’s message has received responses from past and present Newcastle United players, while he has also been congratulated by darts superstar Chris Dobey.

Newcastle United captain Bruno Guimaraes responded with three heart-eyed emojis, while Will Osula posted a hat-trick of clapping emojis. As for Toon legend Shay Given, he issued a message of ‘congratulations’.

Elsewhere, former teammate Paul Dummett commented: “Congrats Fabi.”

After his war of words with Steve Bruce, Dwight Gayle posted a similar message, writing: “Congratulations.”

Newcastle United identifying Fabian Schar’s successor

Newcastle United have ensured that Schar is going nowhere. This summer he will celebrate seven years as a Toon player, having arrived in 2018 when Rafa Benitez was manager.

He has proven to be an absolute bargain, costing just £3million.

But while Eddie Howe prepares to continue relying on Schar, Toon scouts are aiming to identify his successor.

Newcastle want to sign a centre-back this summer, as they eye up the player who will eventually take Schar’s place in the Magpies’ starting XI.

It remains to be seen who Paul Mitchell’s top target will be. Newcastle want Dean Huijsen, while his Bournemouth teammate Illia Zabarnyi is also an option.

While either player would be a strong replacement for Schar, they both could be difficult to obtain. Huijsen looks likely to leave Bournemouth due to his release clause, but his departure will likely result in Zabarnyi remaining at the Vitality Stadium.
