Former Michigan quarterback traded to Cowboys

Former Michigan quarterback Joe Milton is on the move.

The Dallas Cowboys sent a fifth-round pick to the New England Patriots on Thursday in exchange for Milton and a seventh-round selection, [according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.](https://x.com/AdamSchefter/status/1907798948015677633)

The 2024 sixth-round pick was inactive for New England’s first 16 games last season before leading to the team to a 23-16 upset victory over the Buffalo Bills in Week 18. The rocket-armed Milton completed 22 of 29 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown while rushing for 16 yards and a score.

His performance put him on other teams’ radar this offseason. Dallas was in the market for a quarterback after backup Cooper Rush signed with the Baltimore Ravens. New England also signed veteran Josh Dobbs in free agency to back up Drake Maye, making Milton expendable.

He gives the Cowboys added quarterback depth behind starter Dak Prescott.

The 6-foot-5 Milton began the 2020 season as Michigan’s starter but was benched later in the year in favor of Cade McNamara. He then transferred to Tennessee, where he spent three seasons. The former four-star recruit from Florida emerged as the full-time starter in 2023, passing for 2,813 yards and 20 touchdowns to five interceptions. He also rushed for 299 yards and seven scores.
