Arsenal defender Gabriel has been ruled out for the rest of the season in a devastating injury blow for the Gunners. Gabriel will undergo surgery on his hamstring injury sustained against Fulham on Tuesday night and Arsenal are hoping he will be fit for the start of next season.
That means the Brazil centre half will miss both legs of Arsenal’s Champions League quarter final with Real Madrid and a potential push for European glory. Gabriel will also have to sit out the remaining games of Arsenal’s Premier League season in what has been an injury-ravaged campaign.

Incredibly, Gabriel is the THIRD Arsenal player this season to require surgery on a hamstring injury after Bukayo Saka and Kai Havertz. Saka was out for just over three months and made his first team return on Tuesday night and now hopes to be fit to start against Real Madrid.
Havertz suffered his hamstring injury while on Arsenal’s Dubai mid-season break to leave the Gunners without a recognised centre forward in the squad. Gunners boss Mikel Arteta has been plagued by injuries this season with Gabriel Martinelli also missing several weeks with a hamstring injury which did not need surgery.
Martin Odegaard, Ben White and Gabriel Jesus are among others who have had significant lay-offs while last summer’s signing Riccardo Calafiori has missed weeks with different injury issues. The hamstring surgery has become a growing trend in football as it is designed to ensure the same problem does not flare up again and removes weaknesses and scar tissue.

Arsenal said in a statement about Gabriel: “Further to being substituted during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury which requires surgery.
“Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season. Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting Gabi to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
Jakub Kiwior during Arsenal vs Fulham
Jakub Kiwior is expected to deputise for Gabriel against Real Madrid
Arsenal are likely to use Jakub Kiwior as a stand-in for Gabriel against Real Madrid but the Brazil defender is a big miss because he has been a big contender for the club’s Player of the Year this season. The Gunners are also sweating on the fitness of White for the Madrid game after his recent return as he suffered a flare-up of his previous knee injury.
Jurrien Timber also limped off against Fulham and is a fitness worry while Calafiori is expected to be out until the end of this month after getting his latest injury while on international duty.
