The Chargers have often been connected with several of the top tight ends prospects throughout many mock drafts this offseason, but we’ve finally got some news about one of those players actually meeting with the Chargers in Los Angeles.
On Thursday morning, The Draft Network’s Ryan Fowler reported that the Bolts are hosting LSU tight end Mason Taylor for a Top-30 visit. Taylor is often paired with the Chargers in the second round via the 55th pick and news such as this is likely only going to further that connection this pre-draft process.

One of the premier TEs in the class and a player who has Day 1 buzz across the league.

Taylor is the son of Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Jason Taylor, one of the best pass rushers in Miami Dolphins history. The 6’5, 251-pounder has seen quite the surge up draft boards in recent weeks due to a strong performance at both the Reese’s Senior Bowl and the NFL Combine.
In three years with the Tigers, Taylor recorded 1,308 receiving yards on 129 receptions with six touchdowns. This past year, Taylor posted a career-high 55 receptions (also a school record)and 546 receiving yards with two touchdowns. In fact, Taylor became the first tight end in LSU history to end his career with over 100 receptions and 1,000 receiving yards.
On the field, Taylor is an easy mover with the athleticism to win at all three levels of the feels against linebackers and defensive backs. Paired with strong effort as a run blocker — albeit this is an area he needs to improve on — Taylor is most certainly one of the most well-rounded tight ends in the draft.
At his recent pro day, Taylor ran a 4.65 40-yard dash, benched 28 reps of 225 pounds, and posted a 7.06 in the three-cone drill.
While I don’t believe the first-round hype is warranted, Taylor landing somewhere in the mid to late parts of the second round would not surprise me in the slightest. The Chargers need to invest in a young tight end and they could do a lot worse than Taylor with the 55th-overall pick.
I really appreciate Mason Taylor's ability to catch passes outside of his frame.
Above his head, behind him, in traffic, on the sideline. Constantly making catches with full extension.
A lot of off target throws on tape & he consistently came down with the ball. pic.twitter.com/c1QNtkoaMU
