Liverpool have been backed to sign the Premier League star who has been linked to Tottenham and Man United.
Man United will be hoping to improve their squad this summer in order to catch up to rivals Liverpool, Man City and Arsenal next season.
They will hope to make some moves in the transfer window to bolster their squad, however, could face competition for some of their main targets, especially from rivals.
Liverpool are one such team, that will have to line up replacements for Mohamed Salah, whose contract is due to expire in June. The Egyptian has scored 27 goals in 30 Premier League games this season, so they will need to think carefully about his replacement.
Liverpool backed to sign Eberechi Eze over Manchester United
One player who has shown his attacking ability in the Premier League this season is Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, who has made 32 appearances for the Eagles in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing nine assists. He also featured in Thomas Tuchel’s first England squad, netting for the Three Lions during their 3-0 win against Latvia in March. According to a fresh report by Caught Offside, Liverpool are set to battle Man United for Eze in the summer transfer window.
The 26-year-old has a £60m release clause in his contract at Selhurst Park and Liverpool can be described as his “main suitors” heading into the summer according to the report. Man United have been linked to Eze too as a replacement for Alejandro Garnacho who they could sell for close to £70m in the summer. It will likely come down to where the attacker wants to play next season, but everything is pointing towards a move away from Crystal Palace.
Eze can play both as an attacking midfielder or a winger meaning that he could replace Salah at Liverpool, however, he is more comfortable as a versatile attacking midfielder, which would suit Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 formation.
Jamie Carragher described Eze as a superstar last year
If Liverpool are to make a move for the 26-year-old, it would certainly be approved by former Reds defender Jamie Carragher, who described him as a “superstar” last season for Palace. Towards the end of the season, Oliver Glasner’s side came to Old Trafford and beat Man United 4-0, with both Eze and now Bayern Munich player Michael Olise being the real stand-out figures for the Eagles.
After the game, Carragher compared them to former Palace star Wilfred Zaha on Sky Sports: “I was actually thinking then in terms of Crystal Palace, they always used to go to Wilfried Zaha and he was always spoken about, the results when he was missing and he was fantastic for Crystal Palace. Maybe the best player they’ve had in the Premier League era.
“I actually think these two are better. Maybe haven’t had the longevity of Zaha at Palace and that is the next key question. These two are two superstars and I hope they both stay. I love watching them play.”
