Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has revealed that he personally asked a member of his defensive ranks not to depart the club during the January transfer window.
The player in question? Eric García.
Eric’s name of course featured prominently in the Spanish media headlines throughout much of the January window.
This came after the likes of Girona and Como expressed a keen interest in luring the Spanish international away from Barcelona.
🚨🇪🇸 Girona and Como are both in the race to sign Eric Garcia from Barcelona, as Ronald Araujo is staying and signing new contract.
Como have offered €7m for Eric with Cesc Fabregas pushing, while Girona hope to convince the player after last season’s loan.

No such transfer, in the end, was forthcoming, with Eric having since played an increasingly prominent role in the Blaugrana’s first-team setup.
Speaking to the media after his versatile midfielder played an important part en route to victory over Atlético Madrid on Wednesday night, Hansi Flick was therefore drawn on Eric’s situation once more.
And Barca’s headmaster went on to confirm:
“Eric García had an offer from another club [in January], but I told him that I needed him.”

❗️ The proposal was from Serie A side Como and the deal was almost done with Barça for €7m fee with travel/medical booked…
