Proposed Trade Gives Broncos Additional First-Round Pick

Despite having a big offseason, the Denver Broncos still have some big needs on the offensive side of the ball.

Denver still needs to add a running back or two to give quarterback Bo Nix a running game and they could add another tight end to give some depth at the position behind Evan Engram.

One of the deepest positions in this year's NFL Draft is the defensive line and every team in the NFL would love to have plenty of defensive line help to improve their pass rush or to stop the run.

According to Bill Barnwell of ESPN, the Broncos can make a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles to land another first-round pick in this year's draft.

In the proposed trade, Denver would give up their second-round pick in this year's draft as well as their first-round pick in 2026. In return, the Broncos would receive Philadelphia's first-round pick (No. 32) in this year's draft as well as the Eagles' third-round round pick.

This would give the Broncos two picks in the third-round this year and more flexibility if they wanted to move up in the third-round or even in the back end of the second.

"The Eagles have been paid handsomely for their willingness to be patient in the past. They made a similar move with the Saints in 2022, adding draft capital while swapping the 16th pick for a future first-rounder. The Saints' pick in 2023 was better than the one Philly shipped off, allowing the Eagles to move up from No. 10 to select Jalen Carter," Barnwell said.

Broncos head coach, Sean Payton, has also made a similar move while he was coaching the New Orleans Saints.

"In 2011, the then-Saints coach sent his second-round pick and a future first-rounder to the Patriots, drafting running back Mark Ingram late in the first round. Now, Payton's Broncos need a running back to help out Bo Nix. If they don't take a back at No. 20, they might want to grab him here to get ahead of the Browns, Raiders, and Cowboys in Round 2, teams that have needs at the position."

Plenty of mock drafts have the Broncos taking North Carolina's running back, Omarion Hampton, with the 20th overall pick. If Hampton is drafted before Denver's on the clock, they could look to trade down the draft board and try to add a second-round pick. With the lack of need for a quarterback late in the first round, teams might not be willing to move up.

Taking another running back with the 20th overall pick, outside of Hampton or Ashton Jeanty, might be too rich for the Broncos. Instead, Denver could look to add a tight end like Colston Loveland or take the best wide receiver available on their draft board.

With it being such a deep defensive line class, the Broncos could look to add more depth to their defensive line and build for the future.

If the Broncos make the trade with the Eagles, they could take the third-best running back in the draft.

In Field Yates' most recent mock draft, he has Ohio State's running backs Quinshon Judkins as his third running back off the board and TreVeyon Henderson as the fourth.

It's safe to say that the biggest wild card for the Broncos in this draft is Hampton, and any trade Denver makes will be because of what happens with the 1,600-yard rusher.
