NBA Executive Fires Bold Take on Cooper Flagg: 'He Can Prove Me Wrong'

All eyes will be on Cooper Flagg as he tries to lead Duke against Houston in their Final Four tussle in the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.

Flagg has carried the top-seeded Blue Devils all season, and NBA teams are already salivating about the possibility of nabbing him in this year's draft.

He tallied 16 points and nine rebounds to lead Duke past Alabama, 85-65, in the Elite Eight.

ESPN's Jeremy Woo talked to several anonymous NBA executives and scouts about the 18-year-old do-it-all sensation, and they didn't skimp on positive observations.

A Western Conference executive compared Flagg to Boston Celtics star Jayson Tatum, noting that "they both have really good feel offensively in a way that's just uncommon for their size and usage."

An Eastern Conference general manager, however, wasn't as generous, issuing a bold take about the Blue Devils forward.

"I think Cooper will be a hell of a No. 2 (guy), but he might need a top 10 (player) running mate with him," said the unnamed official.

"He can obviously prove me wrong, but I don't see him as a No. 1 guy on a championship team in his career."

For what it's worth, he compared Flagg to NBA legend Scottie Pippen, arguably the best second option in league history. He helped the Chicago Bulls win six championships.

"I say Scottie because he could have been a No. 1 guy, and was after MJ (Michael Jordan) left (Chicago), but he became by far the best No. 2."

In Woo's report, Flagg was also compared to Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard, NBA champion Lamar Odom and former NBA All-Star Andrei Kirilenko.

Flagg will try to spearhead the Blue Devils to their 12th national title game in the NCAA Tournament.
