Sandro Tonali hints at Newcastle United future as Serie A clubs try to sign him

Sandro Tonali was the star of the show after scoring a wondergoal in Newcastle United’s win against Brentford.

It was a goal like very few fans at St James’ Park would have ever seen before. Sandro Tonali secured the three points for Newcastle United to boost their Champions League hopes.

The Italian is not known for his goalscoring prowess, but supporters will be eager to see him pull more goals like that from his locker in the final nine games of the season.

Tonali’s goal ensured Newcastle beat Brentford 2-1 at St James’ Park, ensuring Bryan Mbeumo’s spot-kick after the hour mark was all in vain.

Bruno Guimaraes praised Tonali for his goal on social media after the game. The win may have been one fans would have forgotten in a hurry had it not been for that moment of magic from the midfield maestro.

Recent reports have suggested Tonali could leave Newcastle this summer, with clubs across Europe eager to obtain his signature. Tonali commented on his Newcastle future in a recent interview, but failed to confirm whether he was going to stay next season.

Now, Tonali has dropped a new hint over his Newcastle future with a big claim which fans will love.

Juventus are desperate to sign Tonali this summer, believing they can ‘exploit’ the newly formed relationship with Newcastle after they signed Lloyd Kelly in January.

However, in his post-match interview following the Brentford win, the Italian could not contain his emotions and good feelings about life on Tyneside and St James’ Park.

“Now we play only for the first five teams, for the Champions League,” Tonali said to BBC Sport about this season’s ambitions.

“It is a little bit tough but we are lucky because there are five teams in the Champions League this season. The team is a little bit free so it is much better for me and for the fans. Now we have nine finals to get back into the Champions League.

“I think I am happy for the trophy for these fans because these fans deserve it. Every game we have 52,000 people in the stadium and this is amazing for football. I am so happy to play every game in this stadium and with these fans, it is amazing.”

Sandro Tonali’s high praise for Alexander Isak

Newcastle’s star striker Alexander Isak also found himself on the scoresheet in the win, making it 20 Premier League goals for the season.

Isak made history for Newcastle by becoming the first player to score 20 goals in consecutive seasons for the Magpies, as well as joining Andy Cole and Alan Shearer as players who have scored 10 or more goals both home and away in a single Premier League campaign.

Eddie Howe was concerned for Isak after the Sweden international came off injured shortly after Brentford’s equaliser. The 25-year-old has struggled with a groin problem this season, it was the same issue for him on Wednesday night.

On Isak, Tonali said: “I am happy for him because Alex is a great striker and maybe one of the best in the world now. I think he scores every game. We work for him because when Alex scores, very often we win the game. We are happy. I think Alex now is the best in the world.”
