28yo ace admits he was'misprofiled'at Man United after playing 134 times in one role

Former Manchester United ace Scott McTominay has made a big revelation in a recent interview.

Having spent an incredible 22 years at United, the Scottish midfielder embarked on a new adventure last summer, sealing a £25 million switch to Napoli.

In a candid admission, McTominay revealed he was “misprofiled” during his time in Manchester.

Despite being a natural box-to-box midfielder, he often found himself deployed in a deep-lying role as a number six.

He told the Athletic: “When I got into the first team, I was quite misprofiled in where I was playing.

“It wasn’t the fault of any coaches. My strengths have always been getting into the box, scoring goals, being a problem in there. But I was being used as a No 6, or as a centre-back, and that has never really been my game.

“But when you’re playing for Manchester United and you’re 20, you can’t knock on the manager’s door and say that you expect to be playing at No 8 ahead of Paul Pogba. It’s not realistic.

“In the last few seasons, I began to get into the box a bit more, to score more goals, and then last year was my best one.”

McTominay was a valuable squad player for United

It seems that McTominay is enjoying his life in Italy.

The 28-year-old has proved to be a shrewd addition with seven goals and four assists in 28 appearances across all competitions this season.

His departure gave United a financial boost last summer.

There is no doubt that McTominay was a solid squad player for United.

He burst onto the scene under Jose Mourinho, who valued his discipline and work ethic so highly that he named him Manager’s Player of the Year.

He became a regular for the majority of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time in charge.

Creativity was never his calling card, but his relentless industry and unyielding commitment made him a key figure in the engine room.

Having played 134 matches as a defensive midfielder, it was not until his final seasons at United that he was unleashed in a more attacking role.

His evolution was on full display last season when he notched 10 goals—the highest tally of his career in a single campaign.

McTominay is thriving in his natural role, and it is fantastic to see him finally getting the chance to shine where he belongs.

A large section of United fans will always fondly remember him.
