Berta has been named as the new sporting director of Arsenal this Sunday by the club. He has reportedly met the Spaniard’s agent Felix Tainta.

He was also present for their Premier League game against Fulham on Tuesday. His side beat the Cottagers 2-1 with Mikel Merino and Bukayo Saka both on the scoresheet.

The Gunners have been tracking the winger from the last two years. They also tried to bring him in last June but couldn’t. The forward decided to stay in Bilbao for one more season. He has been great for Spain during the Euro 2024. He also played a key role in Athletic’s quarter-final run in the Europa League. They’ll play Rangers next week in the competition.

He is expected to leave his boyhood club in the coming transfer window. Barcelona also tried to land him last summer. His has a €58 million (£48.4 million) release clause in his current contract.

Berta was at Atletico Madrid as their sporting director. And that could be of great help to sign the Spanish winger for the next season.

Striker options for Arteta

🚨 There is a case that Arsenal’s striker search is being driven by different aspects of the club. 🕵️‍♂️😬

While Mikel Arteta admires Alexander Isak, Andrea Berta is a fan of Viktor Gyokeres, and Edu’s pre-existing department are working on Benjamin Sesko. 🔎🤷‍♂️

The Gunners have been keeping tabs on Viktor Gyokeres as well. Although, they will likely face competition from their Premier League rivals Man Utd for the player. After Ruben Amorim joined the Red Devils, the Sweden international could have a reunion with his former Sporting boss.

Another possibility could be Benjamin Sesko of RB Leipzig. Sesko has been one of the targets for the Gunners in the past. And it remains to be seen whether they would consider signing him again this June.

But Alexander Isak of Newcastle is Mikel Arteta’s primary target. However, the Magpies do not appear to be selling their player anytime soon. And he would cost a lot of money. In the meanwhile, his international colleague Gyokeres could be a good deal for £63 million.
