Newcastle United are making plans to leave St James’ Park.
An agonising departure from Newcastle United’s home currently feels inevitable, with PIF planning to build a new stadium to help increase the club’s revenue.
While a final decision has not been made, all roads point towards leaving St James’ Park.
It will be a sad day when the Magpies play their final game at St James’ Park, but there is still a possibility that Newcastle’s current home could be expanded.

Newcastle United’s alternative stadium plan
At this moment in time, Newcastle officials want a new stadium that will hold more than 65,000 supporters. However, there are multiple hurdles to overcome before the project is greenlit and work gets underway.
According to the Telegraph, the club are aware that they still need planning permission and that there could be objections to building their new stadium over protected greenspace on Leazes Park.
With that in mind, the Telegraph report that Newcastle United are still looking at plans to expand St James’ Park.
St James’ Park expansion will hurt Newcastle’s revenue ambition
Newcastle United’s stadium approach is smart. While their goal is to build a new ground, there are still no guarantees that they will get their wish.

That is why there are alternative plans in place to expand St James’ Park.
No matter what happens, it is obvious that Newcastle United can accommodate more fans. That was evident during the Carabao Cup celebrations, with 300,000 supporters in attendance.
While expanding St James’ Park will allow more supporters to watch Eddie Howe’s team, it will hinder Newcastle United’s ability to achieve their overall goal.
The idea of a new stadium is that it will massively enhance the club’s revenue. It will be tailormade to help Newcastle United make as much money as possible, both on matchdays and beyond.
As well as allowing more Toon fans to watch the team, there will be ambitions to host other events. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium hosts NFL games and major concerts. Newcastle United will want to do the same.
However, that will be more challenging if all they are able to do is expand and modernise St James’ Park.
To increase revenue their as much as possible, a purpose-built stadium is the way to go for Newcastle United.
