Arsenal star Gabriel Magalhaes will miss the remainder of the season after sustaining a knock in their 2-1 win against Fulham earlier this week.
The Gunners’ hopes of lifting their first Premier League trophy since 2004 are almost over as they find themselves 12 points behind Liverpool with only eight matches remaining.
But Mikel Arteta’s side are still alive in the Champions League and will face Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium next week.
However, fans are left stunned by the latest Arsenal news that their first-choice centre-back Gabriel has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The north London club has confirmed the Brazilian requires surgery after sustaining a hamstring injury in Tuesday’s win over Fulham.
They said in a statement: “Further to being substituted during our match against Fulham on Tuesday, we can confirm that Gabriel Magalhaes has sustained a hamstring injury which requires surgery.
“Gabi will undergo a surgical repair procedure to his hamstring in the coming days, and immediately begin his recovery and rehabilitation programme, with the aim to be ready for the start of next season.
“Everyone at the club will be fully focused on supporting Gabi to ensure he is back to full fitness as soon as possible.”
Gabriel has been one of the most important players for Arsenal this campaign.
He has started 28 of their 30 league matches this term, helping them to their best defensive record in the division with 25 goals conceded.
The 27-year-old has built a formidable defensive partnership with William Saliba over the past few years.

His absence will be a huge blow for Mikel Arteta’s side, who will be looking to take an early advantage in the quarter-final tie by beating Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium.
Gabriel’s injury has come at a time when they are already without several of their key players. Defenders Jurrien Timber, Ben White, Riccardo Calafiori and Takehiro Tomiyasu are all currently dealing with fitness issues, while forwards Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz also remain sidelined due to injuries.
However, Bukayo Saka marked his return from injury by scoring a superb goal against Fulham.
Fans will hope Saka continues his good form when they host Madrid on Tuesday.
