Ipswich Town striker Chiedozie Ogbene is putting his time on the sidelines to good use.
The Ireland star has just taken on a new role as the club’s Disability Ambassador, in place of George Edmundson, who moved to Middlesbrough during the January transfer window.
Ogbene suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon rupture last October in just his sixth game since his arrival from Luton, in a 4-3 defeat to Brentford.
Ogbene has turned his attention to work in the community, as he explained to the [official Ipswich Town website](https://www.itfcfoundation.co.uk/chieo-ogbene-named-disability-ambassador/) on Thursday.
“After my injury, I wanted to offer myself in other ways and try to embed myself in the community,” he said.
“I started attending the sessions and I fell in love with the people I’m working with, so when the opportunity came up to be an Ambassador I wanted to take up the role.”
Ogbene made the announcement about his new role to participants in the club’s disability programme.
“I was nervous,” he said. I’m happy with how well they took to me when I announced it, and they were happy to have me so that made me happy as well – I’m grateful.”
The programme has more than 100 participants, and weekly events include Frame Football and Powerchair Football.
