An interesting new rumor claims the New England Patriots actually got a better trade offer for Joe Milton recently but passed on it for one specific reason.
The Patriots made an interesting decision last April. With their top pick in 2024, they took talented North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye with the hope he could turn into a franchise QB. However, after the disaster that was Mac Jones’ first few seasons with the team, they drafted a second signal caller last year.
Not much was expected of sixth-round pick Joe Milton. However, he looked very good in training camp and during the team’s preseason. While they never planned to make him their starter and are fully invested in Maye, it gave them an interesting trade chip for after the season. And they cashed that chip in on Thursday.
In an interesting development that should only add to speculation about Dak Prescott’s future, the Dallas Cowboys swung a trade for Joe Milton. In the deal, New England sends the QB and a seventh-round pick to Big D for a fifth-rounder. However, a new report claims the team passed on a better offer that was on the table.
New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles reportedly targeted Joe Milton trade this offseason
“My understanding is that since Joe Milton became available at the start of the offseason, teams that showed interest included the Raiders, Eagles, Giants, Steelers, and the Cowboys,” FOX Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz reported after the trade.
“The Patriots had a better offer for Milton but chose to send him where he wanted out of respect for him, per source.”
Schultz did not specify which team gave the better offer. However, one might assume it was the Giants, Raiders, or Steelers. Three teams were desperate for a starting QB this offseason. It is interesting that the team had so much respect for the one-year veteran that they passed on a deal better for the whole to send him where he wanted to go.
