Cyclones in the NBA: Week 23

Two former Cyclones clinched playoff and play-in spots, with others still fighting in the race as we approach the end of the regular season.

Tyrese Haliburton - #0, Indiana Pacers (45-31)

Tyrese is the first of the former Cyclones to clinch a playoff berth outright, leading his team to an impressive 14-6 record since the All-Star break and clinching the four-seed in the East.

Tyrese had another strong week, with his lowest output still being an impressive 18 points, four rebounds, and three assists (18-4-3) in a loss to the league-best Oklahoma City Thunder. Tyrese shot at least 50% from the field in all four matchups this week and shot at least 44% from 3-point range in all four contests as well.

In his best performance of the week, Tyrese put together one of the most efficient games of his career, adding 29-2-6 and shooting 7-10 from three against Washington, helping the Pacers to score a franchise record 162 points and winning by 53. He also added 18-2-11 in a win against Sacramento on Monday and 22-1-10 in a win against Charlotte on Wednesday.

Haliburton's Week: 21.8 PPG, 7.5 APG, 2.3 RPG

Next Week: vs. UTA (4/4), @ DEN (4/6), vs. WAS (4/8)

Georges Niang - #20, Atlanta Hawks (36-40)

Niang and the Hawks cooled off last week, dropping three out of their four matchups. Niang saw his minutes drop slightly but still found a way to make his presence known, dropping 17-1-1 in just 15 minutes in the lone win against Milwaukee on Sunday where Georges went 4/8 from deep.

In the other three games, Georges saw an average of 17 minutes a game. Thursday against Miami, he finished with five points and three rebounds, Tuesday against Portland he finished with three points and one assist, and in Dallas Wednesday night he added 6-2-1.

Niang's Week: 7.8 PPG, 1.5 RPG, 0.8 APG

Next Week: vs. NYK (4/5), vs. UTA (4/6), @ ORL (4/8)

Talen Horton-Tucker - #22, Chicago Bulls (34-42)

Horton-Tucker and the Bulls clinched at least a play-in berth after going 2-2 on the week. Talen had by far his best week of the year, adding 27-6-3 in 32 minutes in a win over Toronto on Tuesday. Both the minutes and points were season-highs for Horton-Tucker, continuing to show that given the opportunity, he can be a quality contributor.

In his only other performance on the week, Talen finished with 16-2-2 in a loss to OKC in just 16 minutes on 6/10 shooting from the field. Horton-Tucker has made a serious case for an increase in minutes as the play-in tournament nears.

Horton-Tucker's Week: 21.5 PPG, 4 RPG, 2.5 APG

Next Week: vs. POR (4/4), @ CHA (4/6), @ CLE (4/8), vs. MIA (4/9)

MontΓ© Morris - #23, Phoenix Suns (35-41)

Similar to Horton-Tucker, MontΓ© continues to prove that given minutes, he will provide output. In his only performance of the week, Morris finished with 10-2-2 in just 10 minutes on 4/6 shooting from the field and a perfect 2/2 from beyond the arc. The Suns currently sit one spot outside the play-in tournament in the Western Conference, and Morris hopes to be able to help the playoff charge as we approach the end of the regular season.

Morris's Week: 10 PPG, 2 RPG, 2 APG

Next Week: @ BOS (4/4), @ NYK (4/6), vs. GSW (4/8), vs. OKC (4/9)
