2025 NFL Draft Scouting Report and Film Analysis of LSU Edge Rusher Bradyn Swinson
Measurables:
Height- 6’4″
Weight- 255 lbs
Player Background:
Swinson attended Chapel Hill High School in Georgia, where he was a three-star recruit. He committed to Oregon and appeared in every game as a true freshman. During his redshirt freshman season in 2021, Swinson made his first career start against Ohio State and recorded three sacks during the season. Swinson transferred to LSU as a junior and played in twelve games but made just one start. Swinson became a full-time starter for the first time in his career in 2024, recording 8.5 sacks and 58 total tackles. He won SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week twice and earned Second-Team All-SEC honors in 2024.
Strengths:
Swinson is an explosive speed rusher. A good athlete, Swinson makes it difficult for offensive linemen to get their hands on him with a quick first step and great closing speed to take down quarterbacks and ball carriers in the backfield. He rushes the quarterback with a relentless motor and shows great effort on every play.
Swinson has advanced technique. He has a refined pass rush plan, with an array of pass rush moves he uses to get to the quarterback. Swinson has refined hand technique with powerful, active, and accurate hands. He has a solid bull rush, an extremely effective hand swipe move, and an effective swim move that helped him be an extremely consistent pass rusher in 2024. Swinson was a consistent threat to generate pressure with a 20.1% pressure rate and 22.1% pass rush win rate in 2024, according to PFF.
Weaknesses:
Swinson had just one productive season and didn’t become a full-time starter until his fifth and final season in college. He has play strength issues against the run and can struggle to hold the point of attack. He sometimes has some problems disengaging from blockers when they are able to quickly get their hands on him. Offensive linemen with exceptional strength and technique can give Swinson some trouble.
Against the run, Swinson doesn’t do a great job setting the edge. He needs to be more disciplined against the run, as he occasionally takes bad angles. He can be taken out of plays by blockers and struggles taking on double teams. Swinson is also an inconsistent tackler in space and misses a high number of tackles.
Potential Team Fits:
Arizona Cardinals
Baltimore Ravens
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
NFL Projection:
Swinson has the talent and skill set to be a solid developmental starter or rotational pass rusher early in his career. He projects best as a 3-4 outside linebacker who is a productive speed rusher who can make a high impact on third-down passing situations. If Swinson can improve his strength at the point of attack and become a more consistent run defender, he has the athleticism and pass rush ability to be a great starter and high-end No. 2 Edge rusher for a team.
