Christian Eriksen could make a “perfect” return to Ajax as he closes in on a move away from Man United, according to their former chief scout.

Mick Brown, who spent over a decade at Old Trafford during the club’s most successful period and remains very well-connected there, exclusively told Football Insider that the 33-year-old will make the final decision about his future.

Eriksen’s Man United contract is set to expire in June, and with no new deal on the horizon, he is assessing his options as a number of clubs are interested in a free transfer.

He has made 28 appearances so far this season, 17 of which came from the start, but there are concerns about his physical ability to play regularly in the Premier League.

As a result, Ruben Amorim has given the green light for his exit as he has no future in the United side.

The midfielder left Ajax to join Tottenham in 2013 and is believed to be keen on a return to his former club at this stage of his career.

Christian Eriksen to make Ajax return after Amorim green light

Brown told Football Insider in October that Man United are lining up replacements for Eriksen as they prepare for his departure in the summer window.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment and also spent time as a scout for the likes of Tottenham, West Ham and Aston Villa, explained that a return to Ajax would be the “perfect” outcome.

“*He’s come to the end of his time at Man United,*” he told Football Insider.

“He is a talented player and still has things to offer, but he’s slowing down physically and I’m not sure he can still cut it in the Premier League.

“There are no talks planned about a new contract, and Amorim has agreed to his exit, so he’ll be assessing his options now.

“I don’t think there will be a shortage of interest, but one that stands out is Ajax.

“He’s very well-suited to Dutch football, it would allow him to play at a less intense pace.

“And it’s a club he knows well where he’s still well thought-of, so it looks like that would be the perfect move at this stage of his career for him to wind down.”

Man United respond to interest in Bruno Fernandes

Another midfielder who has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer is Bruno Fernandes amid reported interest from Real Madrid.

However, Brown told Football Insider on 3 April that Man United will not sell Fernandes under any circumstances despite reports of a £90million valuation.

While the former scout confessed United’s actions in the transfer market are hard to predict, he explained that even £90million would not be enough.

Fernandes’ current contract at Old Trafford is set to run until 2027, while the club have the option to extend his deal by a further year, placing United firmly in control.
