Ornstein: Man Utd think 'dream' Ruben Amorim target is Saudi Arabia bound, alternative looks more likely

Manchester United are prioritising a new striker this summer with a handful of exciting options linked.

Since taking charge of the club, goals have been one of Ruben Amorim’s biggest problems with Rasmus Hojlund struggling to score just three Premier League goals this season.

Due to this, and no real alternative besides 17-year-old Chido Obi, domestic form has been a struggle for Manchester United sitting 13th and yet to win consecutive games this season.

Most recently, Hojlund was shown up by Harry Maguire who proved very effective when thrown up front against Nottingham Forest.

Due to this, fixing the lack of goals issue is set to take precedent this summer and Ineos have a handful of possible arrivals on the table.

Now, updates on two of these options have been shared.

Manchester United believe Victor Osimhen is Saudi Arabia-bound

Options for United this summer upfront are plentiful, and there is an ongoing debate over which kind of striker should be signed.

There is the option of going for an up and coming option. Which is where United’s interest in Hugo Ekitike could come in as the Frenchman has been scoring for fun in the Bundesliga.

However, Ineos are also weighing up established options to give Amorim a guarantee of goals with the ‘project’ signings not paying off in terms of a striker. This has led to Victor Osimhen links.

Now, during a Q&A for The Athletic, journalist David Ornstein has shared a negative update on Osimhen to United.

“There seems to be a consensus among Premier League clubs that Victor Osimhen’s most likely destination is Saudi Arabia.”

In January, Osimhen was tipped to be a dream signing for Amorim, but with the fee and wages he would likely command, it is a tough one for the self-admitted cash-strapped Ineos.

Saudia Arabia could offer the Nigerian some massive wages, and also a better financial package to Napoli meaning United could simply stand no chance.

Liam Delap looks more and more likely for Manchester United

While there was negative news regarding Osimhen, there is another striker target for United who fits the bill of what Ineos are likely to do this summer.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants United signing the stars of tomorrow, and one player fitting this billing is Liam Delap of Ipswich Town, as he continues to look more and more likely to be a major option this summer.

Now, after shooting down Osimhen links, Ornstein has reinforced the belief that Delap is an option for United.

“I expect him to move, with Chelsea and Manchester United among his many suitors.”

Delap is increasingly impressive for Ipswich and that £40m price tag looks like a bargain if a deal to sell Hojlund for similar can be reached.
