John Blackwell is a budding star for the Wisconsin basketball team. He started every game for the Badgers as a sophomore and was second on the team in scoring, averaging 15.8 points per game behind John Tonje.
Blackwell added on 5.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and almost one steal per game to his impressive 2024-25 season. The sophomore guard was egregiously left off of the All-Big Ten teams, earning honorable mention honors.
After his stellar season, he announced his plans for next season, deciding to enter the 2025 NBA Draft, but retaining his college eligibility. He posted about his decision on X this afternoon.

Should Blackwell decide to take his name out of the NBA Draft, he announced that he will return to Wisconsin for the 2025-26 season, rather than entering the transfer portal.
Blackwell likely earned himself a nice payday after his breakout season. The Badgers were able to retain him and keep their star from entering the transfer portal, chasing the bag.
Up to this point, the Badgers have only lost two players to the portal: guards Camren Hunter and Daniel Freitag. Keeping Blackwell, Winter, and Janicki while potentially adding other players from the portal should put the Badgers in a position to succeed again next season.
