Sadyr Japarov meets with President of European Commission Ursula von der Leyen

**AKIPRESS.COM** - President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov met with President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during a working visit to Uzbekistan on April 3.

The sides considered the issues of progressive development of cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the European Union, including expansion of trade and economic ties, attraction of investments and implementation of sustainable development initiatives.

Sadyr Japarov emphasized that the format of interaction between the countries of Central Asia and the European Union is developing dynamically and is already yielding practical results.

"The trade turnover of the Kyrgyz Republic with the countries of the European Union increased by 2.4 times, while imports increased by 2.6 times, and exports by 1.5 times in 2021-2024," he said, adding that the increase happened due to the successful implementation of the preference system.

He also noted that one of the key areas of cooperation is the development of new transport links aimed at strengthening the real independence of Kyrgyzstan.

In turn, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen noted that strengthening regional security is an integral condition for economic prosperity and sustainable development.

"The signing of the agreement on the state border between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan is a historic achievement that opens up great opportunities for the region. It not only strengthens trust between the countries, but also creates a powerful impetus for trade growth, attracting investment and implementing major infrastructure projects," she said.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their commitment to expanding trade and economic partnership, developing transport infrastructure and strengthening regional stability.
