ESPN highlighted one historic statistic that underscores the Oklahoma City Thunder's dominance this season on Wednesday.
In its latest NBA Power Rankings, the network revealed that the Thunder have clinched the best cross-conference record in league history, moving to 28-1 against Eastern Conference opponents after a win over the Chicago Bulls on Monday.
According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, the previous best mark was 27-3, a record shared by the 2015-16 Golden State Warriors, the 2006-07 Dallas Mavericks, and the 1999-2000 Los Angeles Lakers. Oklahoma City has since surpassed that milestone further with a 119-103 win over the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, moving to 29-1 against the Eastern Conference.
The Thunder are currently riding an 11-game winning streak atop the Western Conference standings, 14.5 games ahead of second-place Houston. Meanwhile, leading scorer Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has all but wrapped up the NBA regular season MVP award, currently sitting with minus-3000 odds to bring home the honor.
With just six games left on the schedule, the Thunder will look to carry their momentum into the playoffs, beginning with a matchup against the Houston Rockets on Friday, April 4. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. PST.
