Celtics Send Clear Message to NBA Before Big Decision

With the 2024-25 season winding down, awards season is coming up for the Boston Celtics. Multiple Celtics players are up for awards and accolades this season. Among them is Payton Pritchard.

Pritchard has been one of the Celtics' biggest standouts this season because of how much he has improved in a bigger role for Boston. As the Celtics sixth man, Pritchard is averaging 14 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in 28.3 minutes a game, all of which are career-highs.

To go with that, he is also shooting 46.4% from the field and 41% from three. Pritchard's improvement has come in handy as the Celtics have been more cautious with Jrue Holiday's availability this season.

Because of how well he's done, Pritchard has a case for the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year. The 6-foot-1 guard has been consistent with his production for most of the season.

With the regular season coming to a close soon, the Celtics have publicly supported Pritchard's case to win the award via their official X account. The team sent a clear message to the NBA as voters weigh their Sixth Man of the Year decision.

It hasn't been too long since the Celtics last had a player win Sixth Man of the Year, as Malcolm Brogdon won it in 2023 in his lone season with the team.

Since trading Brogdon for Holiday, the Celtics have counted on Pritchard more and more to step in as the former's replacement. It would make for quite the story that only two years after trading away the then-Sixth Man of the Year, the Celtics had another one waiting in the wings as his replacement.
