'He was everywhere': Jason Cundy hails'brilliant'Chelsea player for what he saw him do in win vs Tottenham

Chelsea picked up a much-needed result on Thursday night with a tense victory over rivals Tottenham.

Chelsea have moved back up into fourth position in the Premier League table after a 1-0 win at home to Spurs.

Enzo Fernandez was the match-winner courtesy of his headed goal in the 50th minute. Incidentally, both Moises Caicedo and Pape Matar Sarr had second-half goals disallowed after long VAR checks.

Enzo Maresca’s side picked up the win they were craving straight after the international break because it keeps them in the thick of the conversation for Champions League qualification. A number of individuals shined in the Chelsea player ratings versus Spurs, too.

Next, the Blues make the short trip to Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Jason Cundy hails Enzo Fernandez after Chelsea goal

Jason Cundy singled out Chelsea midfielder Fernandez for massive praise after his crucial goal against Spurs.

Cundy said via Chelsea’s official app (9:10pm, 3 April): “We know Enzo can do this… He’s in there on his own. It’s a brilliant header. Enzo, I said the first half he was everywhere, he ghosts in.”

It’s now six goals across all competitions this season for Fernandez, including five in the Premier League. In fact, he scored both home and away against Spurs in this 2024/25 campaign.

It feels like the Argentine star is now really coming into his own for the Blues as he begins to live up to the £100m-plus price tag. He built on a goal and assist for his country during the international period with a crucial goal on Thursday evening.

Blues head coach Maresca recently praised Fernandez because he’s noticed him taking up much better positions on the pitch.

The fact that Fernandez has committed his loyalty to Chelsea should delight supporters because he’s one of the key players in the XI right now.

Andy Townsend reacts to Enzo Fernandez goal

Andy Townsend delivered more praise on Chelsea goalscorer Fernandez after he timed his run well into the penalty box to find space for a simple header.

Townsend said via the Premier League’s official website (9:11pm, 3 April): “It is a great ball in but you need players who are prepared to gamble in the box. Enzo peels in behind [Micky] Van de Ven and [Destiny] Udogie doesn’t get close enough.”

In fairness, Fernandez is beginning to make a good habit of arriving in the penalty box.

We’re now seeing the South American star contribute to Chelsea’s game as both an offensive and defensive threat, so his partnership alongside Moises Caicedo looks as good as ever.
