Aaron Rodgers is still a free agent and the Pittsburgh Steelers still remain without a legitimate No. 1 quarterback.
The Steelers remain the four-time MVP's only option as the New York Giants filled out their depth chart with Russell Wilson and the Minnesota Vikings are sticking with focusing on the development of J.J. McCarthy.
Rodgers, 41, has been working out with newly acquired Steelers receiver DK Metcalf as the team waits on him to make a decision.
Not playing in 2025 is also an option on the table.
Former Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger gave his thoughts about what he believes Rodgers' motives are on his "Footbahlin" podcast this week.
"I think Aaron secretly is still holding out for Minnesota, which is why he hasn't signed with the Steelers," Roethlisberger said. "Why else would you go throw with DK and be working out and put it out, blast it to everybody that I'm throwing to these guys, but you won't sign?"
While Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell has passed on Rodgers for now, ESPN's Kevin Seifert wrote that there's still potential for the union to happen this offseason depending on McCarthy's status.
"McCarthy would have to demonstrate overwhelming evidence this spring that he will not be ready to play this season, either because of an injury or a complete reversal of the skills and aptitude he demonstrated during his short time in training camp last summer," Seifert wrote.
Rodgers was released from the New York Jets following the hiring of new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey. He led a topsy-turvy 2024 that was riddled with distractions and organizational unrest.
Whether Roethlisberger's theory of Rodgers' hanging onto the Vikings' call is true or not, he thinks he will end up in Pittsburgh regardless.
"To be honest with you, not really a lot of options out there for you," Roethlisberger said.
