Liverpool, Manchester United, Tottenham stand in Real Madrid’s way in pursuit of €50m-rated…

Real Madrid will have to battle it out with Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham to sign Bayer Leverkusen defensive mainstay Piero Hincapie.

According to a report from Sport, Real Madrid are keen on reinforcing their defence ahead of next season, and they have their eyes set on Piero Hincapie. However, they could face significant competition from Premier League giants Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham.

Hincapie hasn’t looked back since joining Bayer Leverkusen from CA Talleres in the summer of 2021. Not only has he established himself as a key figure in the German club, but he has also taken giant strides under Xabi Alonso.

He has featured in a total of 38 matches and has even contributed towards five goals. While he prefers playing in the heart of the defence, the 23-year-old can even feature on the left flank when needed.

The Ecuadorian international did pen a new deal towards the end of last year, extending his stay until 2029, but he could still be on the move in the summer, thanks to the €50 million release clause in his contract.

Los Blancos could push for Hincapie

Real Madrid are one of the front-runners for his signature. Los Blancos want to add more quality to their backline as recurring injuries to Eder Militao and David Alaba have caused quite a few problems over the last two seasons.

They want to bring in a young centre-back who can help them in the short as well as the long run, and Hincapie is quite high on their wishlist. Madrid are hoping that if they hire Alonso as their next boss, he could convince the 23-year-old to make the move to Santiago Bernabeu.

Premier League clubs could rival Real Madrid

While Los Blancos are making a strong push for his signature, they face stiff competition from England. Liverpool, Tottenham, and Manchester United have been linked with him for a while, and any concrete moves from them could complicate Real Madrid’s pursuit.

The Reds are looking to prepare for life without their skipper Virgil van Dijk, while United seek more depth and quality amidst uncertainty around the future of Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans. While Spurs already have some quality options at the back, Cristian Romero has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid, and they might look at Hincapie as an ideal replacement.
