Manchester United will be in the hunt for some new faces this summer
Manchester United turned to Ruben Amorim as their head coach earlier this season after they made the decision to cut ties with Erik ten Hag following a poor run of results. It has since been a pretty mixed spell for the former Sporting Lisbon man at Old Trafford. He has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League and his team are languishing in lower mid-table.
However, on the flip side, they have reached the Europa League final and could end this disappointing campaign with a trophy. They have two more league fixtures left to get through against Chelsea and Aston Villa. The North West giants head to Bilbao to play Tottenham Hotspur in-between them on 21st May.
Manchester United interested in Pablo Barrios deal at Atletico Madrid
United have the chance to bring in some new signings this summer. They could do with getting some more quality through the door to boost their squad. The Red Devils also have the opportunity to let some players head out the exit door to free up some space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for reinforcements.
Amorim must add some more energy into his midfield department. Casemiro and Christian Eriksen aren’t getting any younger and their futures are up in the air at this moment in time. They have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid star Pablo Barrios, as per a report by TEAMtalk, and he would be ideal.
Barrios, 21, is young, has potential to grow and develop down the line and could be the perfect long-term option for United in the middle of the park. If he joined, he would add more competition and depth in that position and would battle it out with the likes of Manuel Ugarte and Mason Mount for a place in the starting XI. He has made one cap for the Spain national team so far in his career and will be eyeing more.
The Madrid-born man joined Atletico Madrid back in 2017 after spells at Moratalaz and Real Madrid. He has since risen up through the academy ranks of his current club and was a regular for them at various different youth levels before breaking into the senior set-up. Diego Simeone handed him his first-team debut back in October 2022 in a La Liga clash against Cadiz.
He hasn’t looked back since then and has turned out to be a useful player to call upon when needed. He has made 99 appearances in all competitions, 38 of which have come in this campaign. However, he isn’t one of the first names on the team sheet though due to strong competition for places and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him sold if the right offer were to come in for his signature over the next couple of windows.
Manchester United swap deal on the cards involving Antony?
It is safe to say that Antony’s move to United hasn’t worked out, hence why he was shipped out on loan to Real Betis in January to get some more game time. His temporary switch to Spain has worked out well for him though and he has managed to build his confidence back up. He has put himself firmly in the shop window and is poised to attract suitors.
The Red Devils must get him off their books though. He will be on big wages and he has fallen out of favour. The attacker is also not suited to the English game and has found it tough to find his feet in this country.
Antony, 25, was snapped up by United under former manager Ten Hag in 2022. Prior to his transfer, he caught the eye in Holland at Ajax and was a key asset for the Eredivisie giants, finding the net on 25 occasions in 82 outings. However, he hasn’t been able to make the same impact with his parent club.
The Brazil international has managed to score 12 goals in 96 games for the Red Devils but only four have come in the past two years. Real Betis took a gamble on him this past winter and it has worked out for all parties involved. He has fired eight goals in 21 matches altogether and has looked sharp.
Atletico Madrid are now said to be interested in snapping him up and things could turn out perfectly for United. According to Football Espana, Simeone is keen on bringing him in and sees him as an option. Therefore, Amorim should try and negotiate a potential swap deal plus cash with Barrios in an attempt to try and lure their target the other way as part of the deal. That would benefit both and would make a lot of sense as both teams look to shake things up over the coming months.
