From Germany: Newcastle now want to sign ‘world-class’ striker alongside Sesko, summer exit…

Newcastle United could look to make a move for Bayer Leverkusen star Victor Boniface once the summer transfer window opens, according to reports from Germany - with the Magpies having made the Bundesliga outfit aware of their 'strong interest' in the talented striker ahead of a potential deal.

Callum Wilson is set to leave Tyneside in the coming months once his contract expires, and with Champions League all but secured if they can win one of their remaining two Premier League games, a move for the 24-year-old could be on the cards if Howe sees fit to land a big-money target as competition for Alexander Isak, despite RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko being linked.

The report by Bild earlier in the week, via SportWitness, claims that Newcastle have a 'strong interest' in Boniface, with the Magpies having held talks with the Bundesliga outfit - and Boniface was valued at €50million (£43million) in the process.

The Magpies target was close to joining Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr in the January transfer window in a deal worth €70million (£60milion), but that didn't go through, and Aston Villa's Jhon Duran was signed instead to quash any notion of a move to the Middle East for the Nigerian striker, who was dubbed 'world-class' by Nigerian sports outlets.

Boniface had an outstanding personal campaign last time out, scoring 21 goals and registering 10 assists as Leverkusen went the entire domestic campaign unbeaten, with their only loss of the entire campaign coming in the Europa League final vs Atalanta - but he's failed to repeat that this time around with 11 goals in all competitions and just two assists in the process.

Behind prolific Czech striker Patrik Schick in the pecking order, it's thought that Leverkusen won't be starting next season with two strikers in their team - and as a result, Boniface is likely to leave.

Recent claims state that Eddie Howe's men have held talks with Leverkusen over a potential deal, though BILD have hit back and said that there have been no negotiations between the two clubs - though Newcastle do bear a 'strong interest' in the frontman, and a £43million price tag is in line with what Leverkusen's demands will be in the summer months.
