'I think there's…'– Man Utd legend drops eye-opening assessment on Red Devils and Ruben Amorim's current season

Edwin van der Sar has spoken out on the “big challenge” awaiting Manchester United and Ruben Amorim after a car-crash Premier League season at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will end the current 2024-25 campaign with their worst-ever finish in the Premier League table since the league’s inception back in 1992.

The Red Devils are 16th in the Premier League and United are only one point clear of fellow Europa League finalists Tottenham, who are currently 17th in the table.

United have only managed 10 victories in 36 Premier League matches and the Red Devils have two league matches remaining in their abysmal 2024-25 season.

Ruben Amorim’s men have lost 17 times in the Premier League alone and the Red Devils have not won a single match in their last five league fixtures.

West Ham climbed above United and Tottenham in the Premier League table on Sunday afternoon after the Hammers defeated the Red Devils at Old Trafford.

United hosted West Ham at Old Trafford and Graham Potter’s men secured a comfortable 2-0 Premier League win and walked away with all three points.

Edwin van der Sar asked about his feelings on Man Utd and Ruben Amorim amid the 2024-25 campaign

Edwin van der Sar enjoyed incredible success at Old Trafford during his magnificent playing spell under legendary former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

United have not lifted the Premier League trophy since the end of the 2012-13 season, with Sir Alex Ferguson subsequently retiring as Red Devils boss in 2013.

Ruben Amorim is the sixth permanent United manager at Old Trafford in the post-Ferguson era after he left Sporting CP in 2024 and arrived at the Red Devils.

Speaking to Optus Sport, Van der Sar was asked about his current feelings on the Red Devils and the United legend broke his silence on what is happening at the club.

“Yeah, it’s obvious there is a lack of success, mainly on the pitch, I think besides the pitch that it’s always been a strong point from the club,” he said.

“But, yeah, of the last eight, nine years, there’s not a lot of consistency in performances, in retaining managers, the buying and selling of players.

“So, it’s a big task. It’s a big challenge. But I think sometimes a club needs time. I think there’s a project in place at the moment.

“They need to give the time to get to full, full growth. But sometimes at the big clubs, especially with the media and the pressure and the fans, it’s difficult to, yeah, to get that result.”

Bruno Fernandes’ position is made clear on Man Utd’s Premier League season after the West Ham defeat at Old Trafford

Bruno Fernandes didn’t hold back on his feelings after United’s 2-0 defeat to West Ham and insisted that the Red Devils needed to be “more aggressive” in the league.

“We created enough opportunities to score goals and to be in front in the result,” he told MUTV, as per Manchester United’s official website.

“Then, when you don’t score, you end up conceding in a moment where we were in full control of the game.

“It’s been happening a lot for us, we’re in control, can’t score and then you concede a goal from a little bit of a scramble in the box.

“We know we need to improve in the Premier League, be more aggressive, get much more into their box, be more dangerous, be more effective.”

United will travel to Stamford Bridge on Friday evening for their penultimate Premier League match of the 2024-25 season against Chelsea.
