FSG "green light" move to complete £40m purchase of loyal Liverpool star

Liverpool have reportedly given their approval to Caiomhin Kelleher to complete a move to newly promoted side Leeds United.

The Northern Irishman has spent a decade at Anfield and despite being a terrific goalkeeper, his bad luck is that he is the No.2 to the best goalkeeper in the world over the last seven or eight years in Alisson Becker.

After winning loads of silverware with Liverpool, Kelleher is set to leave the club this summer to pursue a starting role in the Premier League which he is more than ready to do. Leeds are getting one of the better goalkeepers in England if they sign him.

Leeds United set to move for Caoimhin Kelleher as Liverpool green light summer transfer

According to Leeds Live, Liverpool are not standing in the way of letting Kelleher leave this summer after signing his replacement last summer with Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili moving to Anfield during pre-season.

The move should earn Liverpool in the region of £40m.

Journalist Amie Wilson reports for Leeds Live: “Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher has been given the go ahead to complete a move to Leeds United this summer.

“Leeds have been heavily linked with the Republic of Ireland international over the last few months. It was said back in March that a potential move for Kelleher would be entirely dependent on promotion to the Premier League.

“Leeds will be on the lookout for a new number one ahead of the start of the new season. Kelleher, who is currently back-up to Alisson at Liverpool as emerged as one of the reported targets.”

Liverpool are acting early on transfer plans

With moves for Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong heating up, it’s no surprise that Liverpool won’t mind Kelleher sorting his future out as early as possible.

It suits all parties well if Kelleher is able to move on swiftly. In all fairness to him, Kelleher has been on the bench for ages and while I am sure he loves the club and will relish the trophy lift and the parade, there is likely a level of desire to get his next chapter started.

And for him that means wanting to start pre-season with his new club (potentially Leeds) on the best foot possible which includes a full pre-season.

All Liverpool fans wish him the best especially since he played a direct role in winning this season’s Premier League title.
