Irons Plan to Fast-track Youngster is Bad News for Patient Midfielder

West Ham have not received any [transfer](https://www.claretandhugh.info/west-ham-transfer-news/) interest for midfielder Andy Irving ahead of the summer window.

The Scottish midfielder has largely been surplus to requirements this season but spoke today of his affection for the club.

However, a training ground source has told Claret & Hugh that Irving is likely to fall further down the pecking order once Freddie Potts returns from his successful loan spell at Portsmouth.

When we put that to our top source at the London Stadium, we were told: “The manager is looking forward to Potts coming back next season. There is no immediate transfer interest in Irving.”

Whether that means the 25-year-old former Klagenfurt player is up for sale remains unclear, but what is obvious is that Potts’ progression is being prioritised heading into next season.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Irving appears content to stay at West Ham even if first-team chances remain limited. He said: “I feel at home at West Ham. The people have been fantastic, and everyone makes you feel so welcome. The fans are brilliant. Any time I’ve had an interaction with them, they’ve always been really friendly. I just love the Club.”
