Manchester United are preparing for a crucial summer transfer window, with Ruben Amorim set to oversee major changes in the playing squad following a disappointing domestic campaign.

The Red Devils have struggled badly in front of goal, with Rasmus Hojlund managing just four league goals all season.

Amorim is well aware that a more polished, top-level striker is needed to lead the line next season.

United are already exploring targets, and are believed to be in pole position for one of the most coveted young strikers in England.

However, they will now face strong competition from a Premier League rival.

Nottingham Forest target Liam Delap

According to John Percy of The Telegraph, Nottingham Forest are ready to challenge United for the signature of Liam Delap.

Delap is expected to leave this summer for a fee of around £30 million following Ipswich Town’s relegation.

Forest believe Delap would flourish in Nuno Espirito Santo’s system, and have made his addition a top priority as they plan for a return to European football.

Forest are targeting at least five new signings, with plans to strengthen up front, at left-back, on the wings, and in goal.

The recruitment strategy will centre around players in the £20-30m price bracket, with Delap fitting both the budget and profile.

While Forest are optimistic, they accept that United, Chelsea and Newcastle are also in the race.

Their chances may hinge on how quickly they can progress in talks.

Delap is just one of several names on Forest’s radar.

Other targets include Adrien Truffert (Rennes), James McAtee (Manchester City), and Mateus Fernandes (Southampton).

Nuno’s side are prioritising depth and quality ahead of a packed European calendar.

Despite significant spending since promotion in 2022, Forest’s finances are healthy, with the club recently reporting a £12.1m pre-tax profit.

It will certainly come as a huge blow if United lose out on Delap’s signature, to the likes of Nottingham Forest.

Amorim will be hoping INEOS can deliver on his demands in the summer window.

Delap is a signature the board will be hoping to secure.
